The Claymore stands as a formidable weapon, a magnificent piece of craftsmanship that, in skilled hands, becomes unmatched in its lethality.
Its early availability makes it a valuable asset for those who invested in Strength, aiding in progression through areas like the High Wall of Lothric, Undead Settlement, and even Farron Keep. Consequently, it earns a place in the A-Tier of the Dark Souls 3 Weapons Tier List for the reasons mentioned.
You can locate this exceptional sword on the High Wall of Lothric, in the courtyard where the dragon breathes fire. Beware, as acquiring it may come at the cost of a few deaths.

The Wolf Knight’s Greatsword pays homage to its master, the first Abyss Watcher, who valiantly fought against the Abyss and influenced the Undead Legion of Farron.
This blade is a tribute to Artorias, the Abysswalker, with a moveset reminiscent of his iconic combat style. It’s believed that Artorias’ influence extended to Bloodborne’s fast-paced, dodge-intensive combat system.
The sword boasts impressive damage values and a stylish stance that allows for incredible slashes and front-flipping maneuvers, making it well-suited for PvE. In PvP, its vulnerability limits its effectiveness.
To obtain this sword, defeat the Abyss Watchers and transpose their soul into the Wolf Knight’s Greatsword at the Firelink Shrine.

The Onislayer skill proves invaluable for dealing with poise-heavy foes and formidable health bars, solidifying their position in the A-Tier of the Dark Souls 3 Weapons Tier List.

Its sheer might can even shatter certain enemy weapons like axes and maces. Remarkably, it’s among the few weapons with no usage limitations, making it ideal for crowd control and confronting large groups of enemies.
You can locate this formidable hammer in Irythill of the Boreal Valley, within an opulent room housing numerous Black Knights. To obtain it, ascend to the second floor and navigate through the relentless Black Knights, eventually unveiling a chest containing Smough’s Great Hammer.
B-Tier
The B-Tier encompasses weapons that present a greater challenge to wield effectively in truly perilous scenarios. While they may provide useful tools for specific situations, their utility is significantly hindered by their ineffectiveness in other circumstances. Some weapons in this tier may leave players feeling underwhelmed compared to the effort required to obtain them, making the B-Tier a repository of disappointment in many cases.

It features a lengthy, slender blade and a substantial crossguard with protective wing-like extensions on either side. Crafted by the god of war, Wolnir, this weapon was meant for his high priestess to wield in combat.

The Cathedral Knight Greatsword stands as a solid weapon from a pure gameplay perspective, falling into a middle ground that some would label as a good weapon design. However, it tends to come off as dull, lacking the standout qualities that would make it memorable or exceptional in either design or performance.
To obtain this weapon, you can farm Cathedral Knights, with the easiest method being to farm the ones near the entrance to the boss room of Osiris in the Consumed Gardens. These knights are relatively slow, allowing for efficient maneuvering and backstabbing to dispatch them quickly.

The Crow Quills are a weapon for the masterfully dexterous. While their damage output is unremarkable and quite underwhelming, they stand out due to the exquisite aesthetic of the crow feather daggers. This visual appeal sets them apart from others in their category.
To obtain these daggers, start from the Corvian Settlement Bonfire. Cross the bridge and follow the left wall of a house until you reach a smaller bridge. Cross it and take the path to the left. You’ll notice two entrances across a small gap on your left. Jump the gap and enter the house on your right. There, you’ll find barrels blocking a platform you must run, leap off, and land on to access the elevated platform with the Crow Quills.

However, this playstyle may come across as dull for many players who prefer a more dynamic and overpowering approach.
While some seek weapons that allow for reckless aggression, Yhorm’s Great Machete caters to a niche playstyle, earning it a place in the B-Tier.

Freezing weapons, like Vordt’s Hammer, offer exceptional strength in Dark Souls 3. Pontiff Sulyvahn crafted this formidable weapon for his loyal Outrider Knight of the Boreal Valley, intending it to repel all intruders on the castle grounds.
From a gameplay perspective, this weapon shines as it scales with Strength and inflicts frostbite. It proves highly effective against regular enemies and even some formidable mini-boss-like foes, slowing them down and causing substantial damage.
To acquire this hammer, you must defeat Vordt of the Boreal Valley. After vanquishing him and getting his soul, return to the Firelink Shrine and transpose his soul into Vordt’s Great Hammer.

Havel’s Greatshield, a legacy weapon from Havel the Rock, has been a presence in the Dark Souls series since its inception. This extraordinary weapon takes the form of a literal dragon’s tooth, making it one of the most metal and imposing weapons ever seen. What makes it even more remarkable is that it’s used as a clubbing weapon rather than a stabbing one.
To obtain this weapon, you must face Havel the Rock in a one-on-one duel to the death at Archdragon Peak. After defeating Havel, you can loot his entire armor set along with the Dragon Tooth from his corpse. Alternatively, there is a slight chance you may encounter Havel earlier if some enemy NPCs summon him to fight you.

To obtain Gundyr’s Halberd, you must defeat Champion Gundyr in battle. After vanquishing him and acquiring his soul, return to the Firelink Shrine and transpose his soul into Gundyr’s Halberd.

To obtain the Washing Pole, provide the Easterner’s Ashes to the Shrine Handmaiden in Firelink Shrine and purchase the weapon for 7500 souls. However, it’s advisable to opt for other katana options for a more effective gameplay experience.

An homage to the Trident in previous Dark Souls titles since Trident dancing in PvP scenarios was quite the past time for the entire community. When it left, it took the joy of many players, but we have the Satin Bident in its place. Not the best thing but the next best thing for those who wish to carry on their old habits.
Obtained in the Cathedral of the Deep, next to one of the chained Giants, there is a big blue door that leads to the area where this is found.
D-Tier
The weapons in this tier are generally not recommended for regular gameplay due to their lower damage output, challenging movesets, or niche applications. However, some players may find enjoyment in using them for self-imposed challenge runs or specific playstyles. While they may not be top-tier choices, these weapons can add a unique twist to your experience if you’re looking for an extra challenge or a change of pace.

The Cleric’s Candlestick may have some niche use for players who want to combine both melee and magic in their build. Andre’s Blacksmith Hammer is indeed a rather straightforward and unremarkable weapon in terms of damage and utility compared to many other options in Dark Souls 3. Its main appeal may come from its association with Andre the Blacksmith, who is a recurring character in the Souls series. While it may not be a top-tier choice for combat, some players may still appreciate its nostalgic or thematic value when using it in the game.

A decent weapon when considering the rules for ending up in D-Tier. It has a respectable range but lacks any real damage sustained over time. The play style for this weapon is very hit-and-run, as is mentioned for other weapons in this category.
This weapon can be found in the Undead Settlement area. It is located on a corpse behind a locked door near the second bonfire of that stage.

Final Thoughts
The purpose of making this list was to give readers a comprehensive overview of the weapons that players come across and use in Dark Souls 3. Some people might disagree with my way of ranking the blades. But that is completely fine. Everyone has their own choices, and they view things differently.
This article can also be regarded as weapons tier list for PvP since most S-Tier and A-Tier weapons can be helpful if understood. If you like this guide, check out more guides from our talented team of writers, like this one on Dark Souls 3 Best Melee Weapon for Sorcerers.
